Laylatul Qadr 2027: Dates of the Odd Nights in Ramadan

In Ramadan 2027, the 27th night, when most people in Pakistan observe Laylatul Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr), is expected to begin at sunset on Saturday, March 6, 2027. The other odd nights of the last ten, the 21st, 23rd, 25th and 29th, are listed in the table below. All dates are based on Ramadan starting in Pakistan on Tuesday, February 9, 2027, and move by a day if the moon is sighted differently.

Why the night starts on the evening before

This trips many people up. In the Islamic calendar a new day begins at sunset, not at midnight. So the 27th night of Ramadan is the night before the 27th fast. It starts at Maghrib on the evening of the 26th fast and ends at Fajr, when you begin the 27th fast.

Put simply: if you want the evening of night N, take the date of fast number N and go back one day.

Every Ramadan has at least 29 fasts, so the 29th night always comes. The evening after the 29th fast is when the Shawwal moon is looked for: if it is seen, that evening is chaand raat and Eid follows; if not, it becomes the 30th night of Ramadan, an even night.

What Laylatul Qadr is

Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power or Night of Decree, is the night on which the revelation of the Quran began. The Quran describes it as better than a thousand months, and a whole short surah, Surah al-Qadr, is about it. Muslims spend it in prayer, recitation, remembrance and asking for forgiveness.

Its exact date is not known. According to well-known hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) told Muslims to seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially the odd ones. Many scholars have said the 27th is the most likely, which is why it is the night most widely observed in Pakistan, but they also encourage worship on all of the last ten nights.

The 27th night in Lahore

On the expected 27th night, Isha in Lahore is at about 7:24 PM and Fajr the next morning, which is also when sehri ends, is at about 5:02 AM. That gives roughly 9.6 hours between Isha and Fajr for worship. For your own city, check the Ramadan timings; Lahore’s full timetable is on the Lahore sehri and iftar page.

How the night is observed in Pakistan

  • Mosques that hold taraweeh often complete the Quran (khatm) on the 27th night, followed by a dua.
  • Many people stay up for nafl prayers, recitation and dhikr, and some mosques hold talks and gatherings through the night.
  • Some people perform i’tikaf, staying in the mosque for the last ten days, which covers every odd night.
  • Charity is a common focus. Many people time part of their zakat or sadqa to fall in the last ten nights.

Practices vary between mosques and schools of thought. If you are unsure what to do, ask the imam of your local mosque.

Making the most of the last ten nights

  • Rest in the afternoon, so you can stay up after taraweeh without being exhausted at work.
  • Plan which surahs or paras you’ll read each night instead of deciding on the spot.
  • Keep sehri simple on these nights so you don’t lose worship time to cooking.
