About the Hijri calendar
The Islamic (Hijri) calendar is lunar. Each month begins with the new crescent moon and lasts 29 or 30 days, so the year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan and both Eids move earlier every year. Because the crescent is seen from different places on different evenings, Pakistan’s date is often one or two days behind Saudi Arabia’s.
