How to add or remove tax
Add tax: multiply the price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). Rs 10,000 plus 18% GST is 10,000 × 1.18 = Rs 11,800.
Remove tax: divide the price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). If Rs 11,800 includes 18% GST, the price before tax is 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = Rs 10,000, and the tax is Rs 1,800.
A common mistake is to take 18% off the total. That gives Rs 9,676, which is wrong, because the tax was worked out on the lower price.
