Eid ul Fitr 2027 in Pakistan: Expected Date and Holidays

Eid ul Fitr 2027 is expected in Pakistan on Wednesday, March 10, 2027. That is 1 Shawwal 1448 AH, the day after Ramadan ends. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirms the date after looking for the new moon on the evening of Tuesday, March 9. If the moon is not seen that evening, Eid moves one day later to Thursday, March 11, 2027.

How the 2027 date is worked out

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin in Pakistan on Tuesday, February 9, 2027. The Islamic month lasts either 29 or 30 days, and it ends when the new crescent moon is seen. The expected date above assumes 29 fasts, with the moon sighted on the evening of the 29th of Ramadan.

Astronomers can predict the new moon precisely, but whether the thin crescent is visible from Pakistan on a given evening depends on its age, its height above the horizon after sunset, and the weather. That is why the date is always “expected” until the announcement comes.

Why Pakistan is often a day after Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is expected to celebrate Eid ul Fitr 2027 on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, one day before Pakistan. This happens most years, for two reasons.

  • Saudi Arabia accepts sighting reports earlier and more readily (its Supreme Court declares the new month), while Pakistan’s committee needs a sighting within Pakistan.
  • The new crescent is easier to see further west. On the first evening after the new moon it is often visible over Arabia but still too faint or too low over Pakistan.

The gap is not fixed. In some years the two countries celebrate on the same day. Our guide on how moon sighting decides Eid in Pakistan explains the committee’s process in more detail.

Chaand raat

The evening of the moon sighting is known as chaand raat. In 2027 it is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, after iftar on the last fast. Families watch the news for the committee’s announcement, and once Eid is confirmed, markets stay open late for last-minute shopping, bangles and mehndi.

Chaand raat is also the traditional deadline for sadqa-e-fitr (fitrana). It should be paid before the Eid prayer so it reaches people in need in time for them to celebrate too. The amount per person is announced each year based on the price of wheat, dates and other staples.

Eid holidays in Pakistan

The federal government usually gives three days off for Eid ul Fitr. The exact days are announced by notification a few days before Eid, and provinces sometimes add a day. Based on the expected date, the holidays would most likely fall on:

DayExpected date
Eid day 1Wednesday, March 10, 2027
Eid day 2Thursday, March 11, 2027
Eid day 3Friday, March 12, 2027

If the moon is not sighted and Eid moves to Thursday, March 11, the holiday notification is normally adjusted to match. Banks, schools and government offices close for these days, while hospitals and essential services keep running.

What happens if the moon is not sighted

If no reliable sighting is reported anywhere in Pakistan on the evening of the 29th, Ramadan completes 30 days. That means one more fast on Wednesday, March 10, and Eid on Thursday, March 11, 2027. There is no need for a second sighting after 30 days, because an Islamic month cannot be longer than 30 days.

Planning around Eid

  • Book bus, train and air tickets early. Travel home for Eid is one of the busiest periods of the year, and fares rise in the last week of Ramadan.
  • Withdraw cash for Eidi a few days ahead. ATMs run low on new notes close to Eid.
  • Check last-week sehri and iftar times on the Ramadan timings page for your city.
  • Plan Eid prayer timing: most mosques hold it shortly after sunrise, and big Eidgahs announce times on chaand raat.
