2 minute timer

A 2 minute countdown timer that rings when time is up. Press Start; you can pause, reset or change the time. Keep this tab open with the sound on.

How to use the timer

Type the hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset such as 5, 10 or 25 minutes, then press Start. Press the same button to pause and again to carry on. Reset takes you back to the time you set. The time left also shows in the browser tab, so you can switch to another tab while it runs.

When time is up the timer beeps for about 20 seconds and the screen flashes. Browsers only play sound after you've tapped something on the page, so press Start yourself rather than leaving it to a link. On phones, keep the screen on: some phones pause web pages when the screen locks.

Ideas for using a timer

  • 25 minutes for a Pomodoro work session, then a 5 minute break.
  • 1 to 3 minutes for brushing teeth, plank exercises or a quick tea.
  • 10 to 15 minutes for boiling eggs, steeping chai or a power nap.
  • 45 or 60 minutes for a study block, an exam practice paper or a meeting.

Need to count up instead? Use the stopwatch. To ring at a clock time such as 6:30 AM, use the alarm clock.

Frequently asked questions

Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. It works from the end time, so it stays accurate in a background tab. The time left shows in the tab title. Some phones pause pages when the screen locks, so keep the screen on for anything important.

Why didn't I hear the alarm?

Check your volume and that the tab isn't muted. Browsers block sound until you tap the page, so press Start yourself. Use the full screen button for a big display.

Can I set a timer for more than an hour?

Yes. Type up to 99 hours in the boxes, or pick the 1.5 or 2 hour preset.

What is the Pomodoro technique?

Work for 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break, and after four rounds take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. It helps many people focus.
