How it works
Dimensional weight = length × width × height ÷ the divisor. With centimetres most international couriers divide by 5,000; air cargo uses 6,000. In the US, domestic services use inches and divide by 139 to get pounds.
You pay for whichever is higher, the actual weight or the dimensional weight, usually rounded up to the next 0.5 kg or 1 lb. Use the smallest box that protects your item to keep the cost down.
Frequently asked questions
What divisor do couriers use?
Most international express couriers use 5,000 cm³ per kg. Air freight forwarders usually use 6,000. Check your courier's rate card, because some domestic services use 4,000 or their own number.
How do I reduce dimensional weight?
Use a box that fits the product closely, avoid big empty spaces, and pack several items together where you can.
