How it works

Centrefold film is folded in half lengthwise, so it wraps the pack top and bottom. The film width must cover the pack's width plus its height; the cut length covers its length plus its height. Add an allowance for the seals.

Weight = film area × thickness × 0.92 g/cm³ (polyolefin and polyethylene are close to this).

Frequently asked questions

What thickness of shrink film is common?

15 to 25 microns for retail packs, and thicker polyethylene (50 to 100 microns) for bundling and pallets.

What is the difference between stretch and shrink wrap?

Stretch film clings when pulled tight around a load. Shrink film is heated so it tightens around the product.
